It wasn't as exciting and exciting as the day the first car was shipped out, but the day the Stinger was shipped out also remains a vivid memory. In early 2017, when I was watching the global launch at the Detroit Motor Show in North America, I didn’t think I’d buy a Stinger, but I chose one in line with the timing of the vehicle replacement.
At the time of signing Stinger, I wasn't sure if I should buy a V6 3.3L turbo model or a 4-cylinder 2.0L turbo. My previous golf course was 1.4L turbo, and I didn't enjoy sports driving, so I thought 2.0L would be enough, so I added two optional specifications, so I got a car with all the specifications except AWD. The purchase price is 47.4 million won.
Stinger, who bought it after thinking about one to ten, is now with me for about two and a half years. Appreciation and record of Stinger who has been with you for more than two years, which you promised to introduce one day. Let me introduce you through the Stinger Long Term Demonstration Drive.
Still attractive exterior design
Stinger’s exterior design remains attractive, even though it has entered its third year since its launch.
It's not a segment with a lot of sales, but thanks to its use of the 'fast bag' and elements from the 2011 GT concept car, it's a perfect design. Unlike Kia's design, which focused on lines and sides, the three-dimensional shape of the car was also a unique one for Stinger. The 2nd generation K3 or 3rd generation K5 was introduced later, and the application of design language derived from Stinger was also a good representation of the completeness of Stinger design.
In June 2017, the color chosen at the time of Stinger’s contract was "Silky Silver." At the beginning of the launch, the main color was pushed to the main color as it was introduced with the red color on the homepage or pamphlet, but red, white, and deep chroma blue color became the most popular color. Preference for strong colors has continued not only in Korea but also abroad, and the 2018 "Silkey Silver" color, which entered its first year after its launch, will eventually be discontinued. With less-selectable combinations of colors on the road, it’s become a real challenge to see ‘silver stinger’ on the road.
Personally, I prefer silver color, so I'm satisfied with my choice of color even after 2 1/2 years. There's no intensity as much as red or blue, but I think it's the obvious strength of Silver Colors to look at long-term and never-ending.
It is also satisfying for the stinger that there is no apparent difference between the GT model of the V6 3.3L with higher performance. Occasionally, the choice of the Stinger can be added with all 19-inch alloy wheels, hood varnish, dark chrome points and quad muffler tips to achieve the same look as the top model.
If you prefer the styling of the stinger but do not need the performance of the V6 3.3L engine, select the 2.0L or 2.2L Diesel and recommend additional optional specifications!
Interior, Half Satisfaction and Half Satisfaction
As the bean pods have been peeling off since the Stinger was released, the interior is focused on the interior. The design, not just for the identity of Kia Motors, nor for the originality of Stinger alone, left a regret. The design of blast bulbs mixed with circulars and triangles, or the display of poorly raised floating types, simply feels like it is in a hurry to keep up with the trend.
It varies depending on the trim, but the material is also disappointing considering the price range from 40 million won to 50 million won. Even with the proper use of leather and urethane, the expression is not refined, making it hard to feel a high-quality sense. There have been minor improvements such as changing model year after launch, adding Ambient Light, and changing the shape of floating type display, but it is true that material and expression remain unsatisfactory when compared to brother G70.
Space and margin for GT
Of course, there is a satisfactory configuration.
While the headroom is somewhat disappointing with the sleek roofline, the interior itself is no less than competing models in other segments of D. When compared to the sibling G70, the Stinger has a clear advantage in both rear seat comfort and legroom. The texture of the sheet covered with napa porridge is impeccable, and the seating is also good, with strong support for the thighs and sides but not rugged.
As a Korean-made car with strong convenience features, the high quality of the car has also been highly satisfying since the purchase. Not only does it have a small body but also a 3-zone air conditioner, which controls the driver and passenger seats individually, it has 15 speakers of sound, a head-up display and surround-view monitor.
The trunk is also as well as a fast bag. The tailgate, which opens all of the rear windows, has a large opening, making it comfortable to load a bulky load. Fold the rear seats, which fold up to 60:40 when required, to make more room. Trunk capacity is 406 l (VMA-based).
However, there are times when the trunk floor is located higher than other vehicles and space is not available. It is light, but sometimes it is necessary to remove the trunk net if the load is to be loaded, such as a box, or sometimes seat folding is used due to the ambiguity of the space. The comparison with the G70 continues, and the clearance of coolly opened trunk or space is a clear advantage of Stinger.
Driving performance not excessive or insufficient
There are three stinger sales available: a 3.3 Litre V6 Petrol Turbo, a 2.0L Petrol Turbo and a 2.2L Diesel Turbo. The 2.0L gasoline turbo is the 2.0L turbo and comes with a 2.0L series four-cylinder single turbo engine available on several Hyundai/Gia variants. The transmission is an all specification automatic eight speed transmission regardless of engine, and the AWD and RWD have been selected as the drive.
Code-named G4KL, the four-cylinder turbo engine has a maximum power output of 255/6,200 (ps/rpm) and maximum torque of 36.0/1,400-4,000 (kg.m/rpm). Efficiency is a combined 9.4 km/l (city 8.5 km/l, highway 10.8 km/l). As a result of direct operation, the average fuel efficiency of the roads in the city is 9.0km/l, which is based on the eastern highway and the northern side of the river in downtown Seoul.
The reason I bought a 2.0L gasoline turbo instead of a 3.3L V6 turbo is that the need for a 3.3L V6 engine in my driving environment has not come very close. The city's gridlock, including commuting, failed to perform properly to make up the majority of the driving environment, and it was thought that unnecessary waste was greater. With the choice of 2.0L gasoline turbo, the drive is naturally determined to be RWD rather than AWD. In addition to the belief that AWD will not be required for the highest power output of 255 horsepower, the choice is made to experience relatively light weight and rear-wheel drive unique behavior when driving from time to time.
The 2.0-liter turbo engine has not always been satisfactory during the two-and-a-half years together. There was a regret for the output, such as when driving on a high-speed road or sometimes under a deep accelerator pedal, and the movement is heavy when compared to a competitor’s model with the same displacement. There was also dissatisfaction with the noise and vibration characteristic of the four-cylinder engine. Unlike the four muffler tips, the sound without any presence also tells us that it's empty. However, if you chose the V6 3.3-liter engine, you would have felt regret and dissatisfaction with the opposition.
Considering the experience of various environments, I think good efficiency and easy performance are not bad choices. If there were other engines that would have filled the gap between the 2.0L turbo and the 3.3L turbo, it would have been nice to have an engine that would have less power and efficiency.
If the performance of the power train was satisfactory, there was no fault in the driving ability expressed in Ride & Handling. The steering wheel responds with great accuracy and cleanness, and the usual weight-indicated e-port also has a clear difference in driving mode. With the right weight, you can find stability as well as joy when driving. Front is advancing far away, and has a long wheelbase for body size difference of behavior coming from the hatchback with front-wheel drive a clearly different to experience the ride.I did.
Personally, I think you can find Stinger 2.0 attractive on a drive or two to the suburbs of Seoul. This is because the attraction of 2.0-liter RWD, which has better total balance, is approaching, such as the driving sense of rear-wheel drive and the roundhead that lighter weight makes compared to V6 3.3-liter engines.
However, the unfriendly ride created by a combination of 19-inch alloy wheels and PS4 tyres still does not adjust to the 3 years of purchase. During the winter, the ride comfort and noise on the road will be improved and if the PS4 is to be replaced, I think we'll select this season's tires.
Intervention
Kia Motors offers a 3 year 60,000-kilometer warranty for body and general components and 5 years for engine and power delivery parts of 100,000 km based on Stinger 2.0T. 3.3L V6 engines alone offer a 5 year 100,000 km body and general parts warranty, but the cost of interoperability is not significant, except for basic maintenance and refueling, for 3 to 5 years.
In addition, the Stinger membership program offers specialized services such as dedicated customer centers, visiting clinics and premium care. The 2.0T reference engine oil, filter and air cleaner are available four times in total, air conditioning filter and navigation update are also available four times, and wiper blades are replaced two times for free.
